[Resolved] Updating not working
« on: September 10, 2010, 01:45:12 PM »
I have just installed Avast Free, but the updating appears not to work, either manual or automatic. If I try to manually do it, it takes about 2 seconds, informs me it is up-to-date, but if I go to 'summary' it says I am not. I am on vista, and am not running any firewalls other than the default windows one.

Set avast update settings for "No proxy" and test, please.

Please, upload (attach) the avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log
(or the shorter C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software\Avast5\log\Setup.log).

If the file is too big for the forum, post the last 400-500 lines of it.

Run (open) Notepad.
Open C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log file
Go to the end of it, copy and paste a significant number of lines.

Or, while posting, click on the "Additional options", then on "Select file" button.
Select C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log file and click ok.
Then post. It will upload the file.

Edit: problem fixed by going to 'Uninstall a program' and repairing the Avast installation, in case anyone else with the same annoyance reads this.
