How is livemail set up-normally port 110/no SSL is used.  What is your pop3 mail account-gmail, or ?  Do you use SSL email?  Also time to upgrade to avast! 6.

What is your OS and what 5 version are you using (5.xxx).  What happens when you try to get your mail?  Do you receive an error message or just a hang?  And v6 has been released and is working very well for most users.

Hello Avast Team Members,

Could you help me ? It seems lost packets when I turn on Avast IS protection.
So, I turned down Avast IS protection to resume all things working now.

As know as it is the work around solution only.

How to troubleshoot and solve the problem ???

Thanks!

First of you, you should disable mail shield instead of the entire Avast antivirus.
Second, without posting exact settings in your email client we can just guess. Make a screenshot of the settings and post it here. Also post a screenshot of Mail Shield - Expert Settings - SSL accounts tab.

I have to disable mail shield, network shield and Avast firewall one by one.
But, it still happens same problem.

The screenshots of my email client and AIS are attached. I am sured my POP3 email account is no SSL. Since, it is no problem with using AIS ver.5.1.889  2 days ago.

Thank you in advance!

Unless you post the screenshot with the GUI in English or at least translate it somehow, I can't really help at all. Also, censoring settings doesn't really help here - is the censored hostname the account you are having trouble with? Also delete any existing rules for the mail client in firewall and allow access to Internet when asked again.

Sorry, it is hard to me translate it to English.
But I think it is the same to English version of Windows live mail 2009.

I have to uninstall AIS 5.1.889 and install AIS 6.0.1000. It is the same happen.

Did it possible cause by the new definition update ?

Is it possible to restore the definition back to 2 days ago ?

Also, could you post the AIS 5.1.889 download link ? (Avast Internet Security)

Thanks!

Highly improbable it has anything to do with definition updates. I don't have link for AIS v5.

Hi. I had hassle setting my email to work with Avast. Your screen shot of Avast Mail Shield shows Port 110 for POP3 and no send protocol at all. Are you sure your email provider doesn't require SSL?  (Windows Live Mail sucked for me by setting what it thought should be my email ports and that in turn confused Avast).

The knack is to have only non-SSL ports in your email software, and then make sure the SSL ports show up inside Avast's Mail Shield.

Also make sure your username in each account is the full email address.

Even if your email provider requires SSL, don't set SSL in your email software. Instead set non-SSL ports:

Port 110 for POP3 (send)
Port 25 for SMTP (receive) or
Port 143 for IMAP (receive)

Send test emails from/to each of your accounts.

Then open Avast >  Realtime Shields > Mail Shield > Expert settings > SSL Accounts.

Make sure each of your email accounts show up twice, once for POP3 (or IMAP) and once for SMTP.  Avast should have added SSL encryption, protocol and SSL port for each account:-

Port 995 for POP3
Port 465 for SMTP or
Port 993 for IMAP

See my example screen shot for two accounts...

Amend the entries by hand if need be. Though I've found this to be non-sticky.

Worked for me.   :)
