NVidia Update Problem
« on: August 09, 2004, 04:37:19 PM »
I need advice, please...

I went to Windows Update page and downloaded the critical update for NVidia. I did read the instructions (!) I have chosen to be notified of available updates then chose the ones I want.

Now I am getting the message that the NVidia installation was unsuccessful--no other info given as to why.
WinXP Pro fully updated, ZA free, AdAware, Spy Bot, Spyware Blaster.
In the Add/Delete it shows NVidia listed but without any size, last used, etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could this be a bad installation? Try to perform a roll-back of the drivers and reinstall the new ones again. Just a guess, but it may work. But don't take my word for it.

it's installed now...but I can't access the Nview desk manager and the darn monitor is really acting strange when I use the mouse
should I do a system restore and start all over again?

Never install drivers from Windows Update because they simply suck and mess the reference ones. Use drivers and updates only from www.nvidia.com for NVIDIA graphic cards.

No, I wasn't talking about a system restore, just a driver roll back through the device manager.

now, should I uninstall then go to the nvidia site for a fresh start? at this point, I'm afraid to do anything without asking these questions :-[

1. Uninstall NVIDIA drivers
2. Restart your PC
3. Get Driver Cleaner 3 program (use Google to find it) and clean everything related to NVIDIA drivers
4. Download latest NVIDIA drivers from www.nvidia.com
5. Install these latest drivers
6. Restart your PC again
7. You're done :)

PS: Driver Cleaner ensures that your drivers are fully cleaned and properly re-installed.
