Avast stops by itself
« on: September 14, 2010, 10:09:02 AM »
Hello,

I have problem with avast.
Often, during the day, i get little red X on my Avast icon and when i click on it, it says:
"The Avast! antivirus program has been stopped, or is in an incosistent state. Please re-start the program to resume protecting your system."

Please advise.
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to the avast forum,

I am not sure what is the exactly happened with your avast!, but just recommend you to fixed with :
1. Open start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Program
2. Please choose avast! antivirus and click Remove/Edit
3. After that you will prompted by a new window, in there you may able to choose repair

And you also can check with your avast service, with :
1. Open start - run
2. Please type "service.msc"
3. Please see is there any services of avast engine stop running
4. Please try to run avast services

I hope with this brief information can support you as well.

cheers,

I got this issue today as well.  from reading the update notes this issue should of been fixed in this new version I guess it's not.

The avast! Web Scanner service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

The avast! Mail Scanner service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

The avast! Antivirus service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

a simple reboot of my computer fixed this issue, but this shouldn't be happening anymore from your latest patch notes for winXP SP3 computers because your patch notes states it was fixed.

this is from your latest patch release notes:

avast! Release historyVersion 5.0.677

2010-09-07

solved a problem that could lead to disappearing of the avast service.  NOT FIXED

Please have a look in the folder C:\ProgramData\ALWIL Software\Avast5\logs. Does it contain any files called unpSomeNumbers.mdmp? If so, please send a few of them (the most recent ones) to my email address for analysis.

Thanks

VLK,  this happened again today and I sent you the new file it created when it happened.

Please get back to me on why this is happening and when it might get fixed.

Again I am using WINXP SP3 and all the updates have been applied.  I am using  avast 5.0.677 which it states this issue wouldn't happen in this version.

I have noticed both times this has happened i was  at:  www.foxnews.com
and streaming a video there when this happens.

see this post as well
