Another great Firefox addon - I guess?
« on: September 15, 2010, 05:46:39 PM »
I came across this addon recently....

DNSSEC Validator

Quote:

DNSSEC Validator is an add-on for the Mozilla Firefox web browser, which allows you to check the existence and validity of DNSSEC DNS records for domain names in the address of the page currently displayed in your browser window. The result of this check is displayed using colour keys and information texts in the page’s address bar.

I am not sure if this is really usefull and if someone has tried it, Is it worth it?

Chris's post was obviously directed at those on the forum who use Firefox.
If you don't use the product, simply ignore the post. It's not hard to do
and certainly nicer than again telling everyone that you don't use Firefox.  :)

I find this extension rather useless. It's massive 3MB (which is A LOT for an extension) and in most cases just shows a key with red sign. Not particulary useful. Using WOT, Norton Safe Web Lite or Browser Defender seems like a more productive choice. Maybe they don't do the same thing but at least they do something useful.

Yes, I guess

But the main aim of this addon is to protect users from DNS spoofing and WOT also blocks non harmful sites.

The red sign is for sites which is DNS spoofed

The important thing is that this addon is developed by another Czech company which have projects related to

Quote:

CZ.NIC Labs are a research and development department of the CZ.NIC association. It's purpose is to do a research in the field of the Internet, internet protocols, an analysis of a network traffic, a passive and active monitoring and to propose prototypes to be further developed inside the CZ.NIC association.

The official site of the addon is http://www.dnssec-validator.cz/

Yes, 3MB even defeats LastPass addon in terms of size

I guess,

YoKenny is waiting for the Internet Explorer 9 beta which they is coming out this month.
