Does the free avast 5 have self protection.

Is it something like if avast becomes corrupt, you have to run self protection to recover.

Yes it has self protection and if there was a problem that it wasn't repairing on it's own you can always do a repair through add remove program's.

Avast has a "Self Defense" Module, which protects itself.
