Win7 comes with a full backup system, just point the backup to where ever you want to store it.

You need an External hard disk drive:

I have a UNYAKA external hard drive enclosure with an 80GB HD inside.

Your signature indicates Visa not Win7 ???

I use Nero's Backup version 10 -- works great -- the win 7 built in backup also allows to backup to an external drive! ;D

Macrium Reflect for partition backup.
Partition Wizard Home Edition for full partition image/copy.

If you buy an external HD avoid any from Western Digital that mention Smartware it's total crap backup software. On top of that there is a virtual CD that you can not delete. The 2 cause a lot of problems check out their website http://community.wdc.com/ I got one and would have returned it if I hadn't lost the sales slip. I did get it working after wasting  a bunch of time.

Try a Seagate Go as your external backup drive. They come in several sizes, easily install and work like a charm.

The problem with Windows 7 built in backup is you need to run it from Windows 7. So if your install is really messed up it may not work. I use Acronis True Image and it works very well. The download is a bootable ISO very handy. There is a free Western Digital version works on any WD HD. There are some other good free programs too.
