Avast <internet Security. Installation problem
« on: September 26, 2010, 09:58:44 PM »
Hi, I purchased avast internet security at the end of free period. I made the removal of the old version using the avast tool swclear5.
On reboot, however, before the login to Vista appears, the following error screen appears, that in English sounds like (I’ve got the Italian version of Vista): “interactive logon process initialization failed. See the event log ...”  I couldn't do anything else to force the shutdown. The only solution I’ve found is to restart the PC in safe mode and disinstal Avast Intenet Security then the PC reboots well. I tried also to reinstalled Avast again as administrator, the problem recurred. So I can not install it correctly. The PC is an ACER 6930. I thank anyone who can help me.

I suggest an installation from scratch:

1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you've run it.
5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
7. Check and post the results.

Which was your antivirus before avast? How did you remove it?

Before the 5.0 version I had the 4.0 version.
I removed it using the avast tool "ASWCLEAR5".

This sounds like some kind of conflict with another software running on your PC. Do you have any similar applications (e.g. a firewall) installed?

Thanks

Hello,

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with Avast Internet Security 5 on an Acer Aspire 8930 running Vista. The PC used to have MS Defender and Avast Free. I uninstalled the old version of Avast and disabled everything from startup using msconfig, but after installation I receive the "Interactive logon process initialization has failed..." and I have to force shutdown and revert back to Last Known Good configuration to be able to boot. After reverting to LKG I notice Avast Internet Security appears to be installed but no shields are running and none of them can be started manually. Re-installation of Avast has the same outcome regardless of how I uninstall the failed installation. The license is already paid and the problem remains whether if I provide the license file during installation or not.

Update: Custom installation of Avast Internet Security without "Virtualization feature" selected succeeded!

Hi,

I have also experienced the same problem. There are dozens of posts on this so I am surprised the techanical support has been involved in login an issue with Avast.

All I hear people say is uninstall and install again.

Like I, we have all said we did that. I did it three times.

It works with the free version.

It doesn't work with a version five.

Clean uninsatll.

Clean install.

So how about admitting this is a bug and login it as a fault.

Hello,
i have Windows XP, Athlon 64 dual, and i have exactly the same problem as above.

I have tried multiple reinstalations and even instaling as M-J-B suggested, that is without Virtualization feature, unfortunatly my computer still blue screens and i have to use safe mode to uninstall Avast. previously i had Avast 5 free version and i noticed few days ago that it is not working (big red cross) so i bought AIS thinking everything will be ok, unfortunatly i was dead wrong..

I encounter the same problem.
Running an Acer Aspire 8930 with Windows7 x32.
1. Uninstalled avast 4.8
2. System Restart as supposed
3. Installed avast Internet Security 5.0
4. System restart as supposed

Only starting in safe mode and uninstalling AIS 5.0 let me start my machine again properly.

Is there any solution yet?
