'PHISHING' SCAM
« on: August 06, 2004, 12:28:18 PM »
A 'phishing' scam is when you receive an e-mail that appears to come from a financial institution or e-bay or pay pal and they request financial information from you.
( DON'T DO IT )
If you are hit with a 'phishing' scam, here is what you should do.
Send complete e-mail header and e-mail to complaints@ifccfbi.gov, and they will take immediate action and report progress to you.
Hope this helps.

I don't find it a problem, for the most part it is sent to multiple recipients (using the bcc address), not individually to you. So examine the To: address was it sent directly to you and not multiple recipients.

It is possible to set up an email filter to move email not sent directly to you (your email in the To: field) and chose the action to take. Be careful you don't delete email from genuine sources.

I also use MailWasher's Origins of Spam tool and that catches much of this as the origin in the email (suposidly your bank) is faked and likely to be identified as such.

But as in most things common sence is a strong protection.

That is the key to this and every other scam. If it doesn't sound right or logical, it most likely isn't.
No bank asks for info in an e-mail. They might ask you to stop at the bank to provide the info. Common Sense.
Also, nobody is going to give you something for nothing. If you find somebody who does, please send him/her myway. ;D
