Avast Won't Update Please help SafeSurf! {Resolved, thanks red!}

To continue from the other update post cos I can't message you SafeSurf (which I totally understand):

I completely uninstalled Spybot & removed the extra files in Application Data.

Just to be safe I updated IE to 8 just in case this was in some way affecting this.

I have rebooted.

My current version of avast! is 5.0.667

I am attempting to update my definitions right now, but it has been "initializing" for over 30 minutes now and I'm pretty sure its gonna fail. It's like it can't find my internet.

Thoughts?

Please try this. Under :

Settings - Updates - Proxy Settings

Select the option :

Direct connection (no proxy)
