Virus scan stops in the middle of scan

I have avast version 4 Professional Edition and I bought it in 2008 for 3 years, so it should be good until 2011.  I start the scan for my local files, which has always worked before, and now when it reaches 41%, the computer shuts off.  Can you give me any suggestions on how to fix it?  Thank you for your time

Can't you consider upgrading to version 5?
It will be easier to help you and you'll get a better protection.

Anyway, can you identify the last scanned file/folder?
