first of all what does this virus do?

secondly avast keep detecting a virus in this file: http://new.line6.com/software/?submit=Show%3A&hardware=Bass+PODxt&name=All&os=Windows+XP

avast detects the virus before the download has finished

its the first file in the list.

it is the official line 6 website.

could someone try this and see if they get the same thing??  others on the line 6 forum say they never get this.

i found a virus a couple of days ago in a line6 file.  so i don't know if i've downloaded it separately and it keeps attaching itself to the line6 files.

i would really like this update, please help.

cheers

gen is short for generic. So it is a generic name to define it is a trojan. Since this looks like a legitimate file to me, I think this is a false positive. Please send the file to virus@avast.com and have them take a look at it.

I've got this virus too.   :(  Am not sure how I got it as the on access scanner did not pick it up but it was found during an on demand scan (thorough including archives).  Mine is in C:\System Volume Information\_restore{DD66F69-E2F1-467A-B1A9-F31968CB5B22}RP81.  I moved it to the chest but I'm not sure what to do with it now.  I have completed the report form and also emailed it to avast.  If anyone has any ideas what I should do now (I'm a complete novice!!  ::)) I'd be really grateful!  ;D

seamonkey, disable system restore, reboot and it will be solved. And you can safely remove the file from the chest.

Excellent!   :)  Thank you so much.  ;D  Have done it and it seems okay.  Can I re-enable system restore now?  (Told you I was a dunce!!  ::) ;D)

After you have rebooted, don't forget to RE-ENABLE System Restore.

Just send an email with a direct link to the file, or with detailed instructions where/how to download it, and state you suspect a false alarm... ;)
