« on: October 05, 2010, 04:50:43 PM »
Hi All

Experiencing bad lag, running the PC temporialy with Microsoft Security Essentials just to test, even though i felt safer with Avast 5 installed,  is there any way to combat the lag and have my preferred Free Antivirus in, and still enjoy Second life 3D Game

Please let me know what i can do

Viewers i use for Second life are Phoenix Viewer or offical 2.1.1 Viewer

Windows 7 64bit is my operating system
Processor speed 2.20ghz, AMD Athlon 64
Memory 4gbs
Video card Nvidia 8600GT 256mb
Sound card Diamond mm
Hard drives  160gb Maxtor Serial ata--Master
Western Digital 500GB slave, External 320gb Seagate

Any more info needed, just let me know

I suspect the webshield is responsible for the lag, but without knowing what version of avast, vps version and having avast not installed it is not possible to check. So please remove MS Essentials completely, run CCleaner (keep running the registry cleaner till nothing is found), reboot, install Avast! and report back here please. Mention which version you have installed.

Ok I removed Microsoft Security Essentials, Ran Ccleaner, rebooted, Reinstalled Avast 5.0.677 Free, Registered it, and proceeded to use Second Life this time with 3rd Party Viewer--Phoenix 1.5.1.373 64bit Version.   (Lag is bad at times where i can't even do anything in the program, to other times it's working great

VPS Version is 101014-0

Thank you for replying, and maybe i'll finally have some answers on what probably to do instead of switching Antivirus programs

Will Install Second Life Offical viewer 2.1.1 if i have to

Main thing is i want it less laggy if possible so i can enjoy the program and all taht

Am I correct if I say you are using a third party application to play?
Clean install of W7. Did you installed ALL drivers?
No errors in device manager?
You do realize that W7 is very heave on system resources?
256Mb video card is definatly not suitable to use W7.
Was W7 on your system before or was it XP?

Windows Vista 32bit was on the PC before, I upgraded to Windows 7 64bit recently
All Drivers installed, No errors in Device Manager
yes 3rd party program i'm using to play
256mb is all i can afford at the moment, updating it shortly in the coming months

(Should i Downgrade to Vista 32bit), i don't own 64bit Version of that)

or stay with Windows 7 64bit Home Premium  and make due with it

All hardware passed Compatiblity Check

Been Using Windows 7 For over 3 months, did a clean install recently to clean out some junk is all, was Running Avast 5.0 most of that time, unless it's my internet or SL Servers now causing the lag
