Why do I get the security warning on perfectly safe sites?
« on: November 19, 2010, 10:43:45 AM »
I get the security warning almost everytime I go onto a site including buying educational books. Is there a problem with the latest AVAST update? Thanks for any help.

can you give an example ?
and also post a screen shot of the avast popup if possible

also check for malware with this

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
always update the program before you scan
click the remove selected button to quarantine anything found
you may post the scan log here if anything is found

Thanks for your response. here is a link to a safe site which triggers the warning "Malicious URL blocked"

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780701184605/Kitchen/b/-3/t/-21/reviewId/9400?utm_source=NL-Body&utm_medium=email-Newsletter&utm_term=Book3&utm_content=Block2&utm_campaign=Newsletter-November-10#Reviews-21

I don't know how to copy the screen shot. but it has been copied on this site by DavidR :

I have scanned with Malwarebytes after updating and the scan was clean."the scan completed successfully. no malicious items were found"
 Thanks

Follow Pondus' advice.

Post a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Quick scan log here.

No alert here on the link that you gave in your first post, using firefox 3.6.12 and avast virus definitions 101119-0. Clear your browser cache/temp internet files, etc. - Ensure you have the latest virus definitions.

tested with IE8 / Chrome / opera and no avast warning here

you may try cleaning your temp files and see if that will fix it

TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files/file/187-tfc-temp-file-cleaner-by-oldtimer/
TFC requires a reboot immediately after running. Be sure to save any unsaved work before running TFC.

If this does not work then we can let Essexboy have a look....

Thanks to everybody for the help. I have cleared the temp internet files and still have the warning coming up.
Recently I had a problem with Malwarebytes and after it was cleaned up I was advised to install another anti virus programme called AntiVir which is running in parallel with Avast. Could that be causing the warnings from Avast?? Thanks.

You can not run 2 anti virus applications as they will conflict.

Disabling isn't enough, it is still installed and as such, low level drivers will still be loaded.

Once you uninstall antivir, then can you check and don't forget to clear your browser cache/temp internet files.

I still get no alert from that link.

What would help is a screenshot of the alert window.
- When you click the Reply button, there is an Additional Options link, this expands the options to attach a file, that can be an image file or a text file (.log or .txt). Also see How to post an Image.
