Check your Start Up to see what is running and turn off any nonessential programs.  Sometimes things sneak in there that you do not need, then just "disable" the items you do not need.

If you are still having problems, the log I suggested was an OTL log.
- Check the information on the first post of this thread under Virus/Worms for you to check your machine for malware: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0.  Follow the directions for obtaining the OTL logs.  Post the two (2) OTL log as an attachment (Additional Options > Attach > Browse (the logs will be on your desktop > Post).

Hang in there.  I know you have been through a lot with this, but we'll get to the bottom of this.

I re-posted to the comodo forum
update works fine as long as I leave their Defense + off
Secuni PSI shows all up to date
MBAM, SBS&D and SAS still clear

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Defense + the HIPS portion of their product?  What version of Comodo do you have?

Totally agree.  We have seen many problems with people using SB and especially TT.

If you want to try and get to the root cause of your problem, perhaps you need to now uninstall security software, especially ones that we know cause issues.

- Uninstall Spybot S&D w/Teatimer: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/uninstall.html. In addition, you need to go into Advanced settings to disable the resident protection (2 areas to possibly disable – Teatimer and some IE blocking), then de-immunize if the immunity has been set.  That takes a minute or more sometimes.  The run the program’s own uninstaller, which should be in the Add/Remove Programs.  Also see this thread:  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=65833.30.

Let us know how this goes in resolving your problem.

Latest comodo- ver 5 with latest updates
xp SP-3 machine is still out on loan but user reports avast working correctly
You will notice that MBAM recommends Spybot as second opinion scanner
I used to be on the Ad-aware and Spybot help teams but many years ago
All the good Ad-aware people are now helping at MBAM or elsewhere
I left when adaware bent over from threats from adservers

Been Awhile since I asked about this issue, mainly because it seems to have fixed itself. Well, except for the other day when it didn't auto-update. Has been working since then though.  ???

I never heard of any problem related to D+ blocking auto update...
But Spybot does some funny things sometimes. Sure, it's up to you, what to do, but I would drop Spybot. ;)
