@ Norrie,
3) go to you firewall, find the entry for avastsvc.exe and delete it
I am having the same problem and am unable to follow the directions given by luxor
on #3 there is no settings on my firewall for avast.exe. I am unable to access email or browsers with avast running.
If there is no setting for Avast in your firewall (FW), then that explains why you cannot connect to the Internet/browsers or email.
1. What FW do you have? Have you tried uninstalling it per the vendor's instructions and doing a clean install? If not, I suggest doing this and you should not have to follow the directions above...it
should happen automatically on a clean install of your FW. If it doesn't, then you will need to follow lukor's steps above. Make sure your FW does not include an antivirus (AV) in it.
2. What version and product of Avast do have? Version 5.0.677 is the latest version. Products are Free, Pro, or AIS (which has a FW in it).
3. What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit?
4. What other security software do you currently have on your machine or in the past (including Antivirus, FW, trial security software, and other security software)?
