Missing Avast Files?
« on: October 22, 2010, 11:15:40 PM »
I did a full scan of my Windows 7 (64 bit) system today.  There were no malware threats found.  However, the scan produced an error log that said it could not find certail alwil files.  I have attached a copy of the log.

Does this present any problem?

Try a full Re-install? Try it out, might work... ;)

Guide:

1. Uninstall Avast! and restart
2. Download this http://public.avast.com/~forejt/aswClear.exe
3. Then download these Softwares
CCLEANER:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
DISK DEFRAG:
http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10567503.html?part=dl-6267754&subj=dl&tag=button
4. After installing this, run the ASWCLEAR.exe and restart
5. After Restart, run CCLEANER - You will see to the left there is TAPS. Look for "REGISTRY" Now, clean up Registry(CCleaner will ask you if you wanna backup the registry - Just save the Registry file in a new folder)
6. Now run Auslogics Disk Defrag - This will clean your system up(look for errors etc) but also speed your PC up.
7. Restart
8. Reinstall Avast!

Report back if any issues. ;)

No, it was a full scan of my C drive.

If you expand the column headings, you will see the full path and I believe that you would have found that it was pointing to an old VPS folder, as the virus definitions are updated it creates a new one. These older folders are periodically removed, you will have the current one and probably the one before that (a sort of fall back I guess). So it looks like this house keeping has occurred during the scan.

So I believe you really have nothing to do.

Edit: See second image showing the partial contents of one of these folders and you will see they match the so called files not found.

Thanks to everyone for you replies.

Other programs began acting strangely so I reinstalled the operating system (Windows 7) and Home and Student.  Tried again and everything worked fine.
