default answer or virus

 8)  yesterday while downloading my email the program came up and told me the i had a virus.
I was sent a program from a friend the was .exe file
I downloaded it anyway and scanned before opening the program the scan was clean. does avast 4 allways send a virus message when getting a .exe. file in email ty Ron

That's strange. Was it really a "virus-is-present" message (i.e. with the name of the virus)? Wasn't it rather a warning about possibly dangerous attachment?

Then you can configure the avast! behavior in the resident protection settings - click the blue icon in the system tray and select the provider (either Internet Mail, or Outlook - I don't know what mail program you are using). There you can modify the settings (either by moving the slider lower, or click Customize and check the "Heuristics" pages).
