Internet Sharing Mode?
« on: October 25, 2010, 04:56:41 PM »
what exactly does having the firewall in internet sharing mode do? if i leave it on (because i use Intel My WiFi to share my internet with some of my devices) does it open up the firewall or cause any security risks? is it ok to leave it on at all times or shuld i just turn it on and off wen needed?

ICS just makes your computer a "hub" or router to the internet using the selective interface as a gateway.

The firewall would prevent bad things from attacking your computer, and all computers that are using the connection.

so all my application rules stay in place and it wuld be no less secure than having it disabled right?

I think that by disabling it, your rules would turn off as well.  It can't run rules if the provider isn't running, then again, I don't have Avast AIS, so I couldn't say for sure.

He's  talking about the firewall in AIS so having it disabled will not turn the rules off (Internet Sharing Mode is off by default). o_O

Hi, security is reduced a little if this option is enabled, because some ports may be opened.
