Win32: Bamital-X
« on: September 02, 2010, 07:42:24 PM »
I keep getting this virus blocked by Avast but it keeps coming back. When I did a full system scan it showed up in 4 files and when I try to delete I get the message: "Error: the specified site is read only (6009)". How do I get rid of Win32:Bamital-X? It is still being blocked by Avast but obviously not obliterated. Frustration looms....

Here is one that was solved http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=63126.0

If it does not work, follow the guide suggested in reply #4

Malwarebytes is what helped my case of infection the most. But it turned out I had a few other issues, not only Bamital. Hitman Pro fixed wininit that was infected. Norman fixed a few more of those other issues. Somehow I ended up wiping my explorer.exe completely and had no desktop nor start menu after login. However, I could still get to task manager and run new tasks and initiate scans that way. Avast did fix quite a few problems initally too, but it couldn't repair nor move the remaining few files (explorer.exe and wininit.exe).

Then I came here asking for help and finally got it fixed after following the guides.

If I understood correctly this virus hooks itself to explorer.exe, detects different browsers and redirects search engine results on them.

when asking for help you should start your own topic, and not start inside somone else`s tread
Helping multiple user`s in same tread will only create chaos....
