installing chrome through avast 5.0.677

when installing google chrome through avast do you have to have your internet connection active or can you be offline for it to install?

The Google Chrome installation is, generally, on-line, i.e., you need to be connected to download the necessary files to install Chrome.
There is a off-line setup, but it's "hidden" on Internet...

It has to be on-line to download as the avast installation/setup file doesn't contain Chrome. Whilst it may manage the download and installation, you have to be on-line.
