Another question about sf.bin
« on: October 28, 2010, 08:44:17 AM »
I'm using the latest avast free with Zonealarm free and everything
seems to be working fine.  However, in the ZA program window it shows
9 instances of sf.bin.  New instances seem to pop up with almost
every data base update.  Everything works, so I don't delete any of
them.  Should I delete them all, or should I delete just the earliest ones?

SF.bin is the code emulation part if the avast protection, now I don't know if there would be multiple occurrences of it if it were running code emulation on more than one file, etc.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Are these firewall permission entries in ZA?

I presume they are as (i think) sf.bin will be used by all shields, webshield included, so may need a connection the internet.

Also, IIRC sf.bin will change quite readily as it changes with virus updates (it is in the same folder) so new versions would probably produce more instances in the firewall (especially as the location changes with the changing definition folder - folder name is the definition date...)

Thanks to all for your answers.  Scott, if you're familiar
with ZA, all the sf.bin entries show "?" (ask).  However,
they all seem to be automatically allowed without my
choosing.  I hope you understand my explanation.
