Avast and total media theatre 3
« on: November 25, 2010, 07:33:17 PM »
Is there a way to make Avast work together with Arcsoft Totalmedia Theatre 3 ?
I'm running windows XP and after installing Avast, starting TMT 3 immediately reboots my pc. If I uninstall Avast everything works fine again.
I like Avast, but TMT 3 is essential for me for playing blu ray images from HD.
Please let me know if there is a solution.

What version of avast and firewall are you using? have you allowed TMT in the firewall?, iv had TMT 3 running with avast for the past year and never a problem, just upgraded to TMT 5 today and that also work's great for me.

I used Avast v5.0.677 free edition.
It contains no firewall and the excisting firewall already allowed TMT 3.
Deactivation of the realtime shield also did not help. :(

You could try a reinstall of avast after deleting all previous remnant's of avast and any other av you have had before avast, what av was on your system before avast? did you remove with removal tool?. If all these area's are checked it could be an issue with TMT.

Before Avast, norton 2003 was running on the machine which I uninstalled and runned the norton 2003 removal tool.
After restart I installed Avast (for the first time).
I read some messages on the TMT forum from people who have the same problem, but the only solution was to de-install Avast. Which i've done now and TMT 3 is working again.
Somehow TMT 3 hits Avast in a way it triggers a reboot.
I was very amazed that TMT 3 and Avast was working for you. Are you on Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 32/64 ?

It's in my signiture win 7 64 and it was working when my system was still 32 bit. The only problem's iv ever heard about seemed to always be on xp. If you have no luck with avast you could try mse or avira and outpost have just released there free security suite http://free.agnitum.com/download.php

I recently installed win7/64 on a second partition.
I will install Avast there and also TMT3 and tell you what the results are.
This will probably in the weekend.
Thanks for trying to help so far.  :)

Ok, I can confirm that under Windows 7 X64 the combination Avast and Totalmedia Theatre 3 works.
That leaves it to be a specific problem under Windows XP (home) X86.  :(

Good that you have your player back now though :)
