but I wanted to know what will happen if two AVs ran in the background at the same time.  Just out of curiousity!
You should not do this. Two Guards from different AV-Firms to interfere with each other. INstall two or more on-demand-Scanner at the same time will work, of course.

The AVG Support team just go away from the question:
Will AVG 7.0 be free for home and non-profit users...
They just say that, by now, AVG 7.0 free-version is not available.
Thanks, AVAST!  ;)

Both products, avast4 and avg6, didnt work together (because of their drivers - and there was a BSOD as a result) but guys from Grisoft did some changes in their drivers - so now we're avg7 compatible :).

Forget AVG 7.0 Free version.
Avast has more features, better Support team...  :)
By the way, nobody in AVG says if the version 7.0 will be free. Probably not...  :P

But why would you want to use 2 differnt AV's? Wouldnt it just be better to use one and use an online scanner like tredmicro? Because that is the only thing that you would be using the other AV for anyways?

And that means that you will not use as much ram driving these programs :) :)

- Why to use 2 different AV's to do a system scan ? Do have a layered defense.

- Better to use online scan ? well, they are indeed always Up to date, and they do a really good job, but many people don't like to stay online that long, or find it to much work to browse and login etc...to do a simple scan

- More ram useage having 2 scanners ? Don't think so...every one knows that you can have only 1 resident shield running (monitor), so when the other scanner is "off" he uses no Ram until he has to do a scan...he only takes a little hardisk space, waiting and sitting there to be used. And when you use your backup scanner, its nesecarry do disable ALL running monitors & shields.

Finally AVG said something...
The 7.0 version (and so on) will not be freeware.
The old 6.0 version now called AVG Free Edition will continue (with less features than 7.0 version, only in English)...
As we can see, stay with avast  ;)

AVG is Czech, same as avast (and Kerio, for that matter)
