Problems printing coupons from Parade.com
« on: November 26, 2010, 10:57:03 PM »
My wife has been using the website http://www.parade.com/coupons/ for a long time. Today it just won't work. Avast Internet Suite (which I just upgraded to) keeps blocking when it (the coupon printer section) asks her to reinstall the coupon printer. Avast keeps saying it is a Rootkit and blocks it. How can I overcome this? Coupons has saved us lots of cash over the years. I don't want to keep disabling Avast so she can print the coupons.

HELP!

Please change your link in your post from http to hXXp so no one can click on it in case it contains malware.

Avast is telling you that this site is malicious (has malware), at least the times you attempted to go on it.  Go to Virus Total (VT) http://www.virustotal.com/ and upload the url to this site to see if it is clean or not and report your results (copy and paste) back in this thread.

In the meantime, if you have disabled Avast and gone into this site just to get the coupons, I suggest you:

1. Make sure your Avast definitions are current and run a Quick scan and a boot-time scan (if you have a 32-bit machine).  If any infections come up, put them in the Virus Chest (do NOT delete them) where they will be safe and report back on them with a screen shot.

2. Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
·   Download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
·   Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
·   After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
·   Under Settings:
o   General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o   Scanner SettingsCheck all boxes
o   Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
·   Once the program has loaded, select "Perform FULL Scan", then click Scan.
·   The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
·   When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
·   Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found.  You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
·   The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
·   Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.

I realize that coupons can save you money, but perhaps in the meantime you can try a different site but use a reputable site or scan the url first to make sure it is clean since many of these sites which use flash often contain malware.  I also suggest that you use extra protection in your browser (see my Signature).

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you.
