« on: November 23, 2010, 05:31:29 AM »
Hi, why avast 5 GUI often slow/hard to open/show? And in avast scan result, if the infected file numbering about hundreds of files and they will be deleted or quarantined, the avast GUI become not responding. Is it normal?

No, this does not sound normal.  Are you saying that you have numerous malware (infections) being detected and they are either being deleted or quarantined?  And as a result, your Avast GUI is slowing down?

1. What other security software do you currently have on this machine and in the past, including antivirus, firewall, trial security software, and other security software?

2. Please open your Avast GUI > Settings > Avast Virus Chest > Maximum Size of Chest and change the number to zero ["0"].

3. Do you have any items currently in your Virus Chest now?

4. Did Avast do a scan and find infections?  If so, what were they and what type of scan did you do?  Can you give a screen shot?  If not, please type them in carefully spelling them exactly.

5. Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
·   Download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
·   Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
·   After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
·   Under Settings:
o   General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o   Scanner SettingsCheck all boxes
o   Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
·   Once the program has loaded, select "Perform FULL Scan", then click Scan.
·   The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
·   When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
·   Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found.  You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
·   The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
·   Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts -- Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process; If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you.

Thank you, but i've installed avast 5 in about 20 more computers and all of them often (not always) have the same problem in the GUI, even in a new fresh install of windows without any other application. But it seems the bug has been resolved in the latest version of avast (5.1.864). Thanks to avast team for the great job!
