Avast & MBAM
« on: November 25, 2010, 09:57:21 AM »
I use Avast I.S and am considering upgrading to the full version of MBAM. Will Avast and MBAM work well together if they are both offering real time protection or will they just confuse each other?
Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) SP1,
Intel Core i5-2410M @2.30GHz, 6GB RAM
AvastFree Antivirus & ZoneAlarm Free.

MBAM is a specialised tool and i think the detection is close to 200 000  avast is close to 2 500 000
you can scan sometimes with MBAM but i think avast is enough for malware detection and MBAM only fight against malware..but with avast you are protected with Spyware also..

Both Avast and MBAM work fine together.  Should you find any conflict, you can put MBAM as an exclusion in Avast (copy and paste) per the MBAM forum:

If you decide to install MBAM Pro, you may need to add the exclusions into the Avast file system shield and to the exclusions in settings.

For Windows XP: CODE  C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For Windows Vista and Windows 7: CODE  C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7: CODE  C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

These will need to be added one at a time.

You may get various opinions regarding entering an exclusion, but this was the latest update from MBAM from one of our Avast Evang.

I personally use both the Free and Pro versions on my various machines with different OS's with no conflicts with Avast.

I only run the free version of avast but no problems with MBAM PRO and i have the exclusions added, you can also add the avast program folder to the ignore list in MBAM if you download the new MBAM 1.50 beta version.

Well... for me, I can't see a big difference. Maybe most "internal" changes.

Full scan speeds have been almost halfed for me 28min down to 16min and the option of manually being able to add programs to ignore.

MBAM 1.5 is indeed faster but so far since I have been running Avast MBAB has yet to find anything on my computer and I only run it in batch mode.

Other than MBAM being able to cleanup anything avast has or did miss MBAM Pro has the added benifit's of the ip blocking (malicious website blocking) which has saved me numerus time's

I had problems with MBAM during a full scan...MBAM locked-up. I switched to Ad-Aware Free and all is well. I have avast 5.0 free and it's all you really need. avast free has it all...anti-spyware, anti-malware and, anti-virus. avast 5.0 free is the best i have ever used.
Dell Inspiron, Win10x64--HP Envy Win10x64--Both systems Avast Free v17.9.2322, Comodo Firewall v8.2 w/D+, MalwareBytes v3.0, OpenDNS, Super Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, MCShield, Unchecky, Vivaldi Browser and, various browser security tools.
