Comodo model is sell services and not the software (free for home and business).
avast model is freemium (free + premium product).
Comodo definitely pushes "fee for services" and from what I can tell...pretty good services.
But back to AIS....How configurable is the firewall??
Sounds great guys...but can anyone tell me about the firwall in AIS :-\
Probably the best idea would be to download it and give it a free try for 30 day's, it's the only way you'll see if it's what you like.

That's why you should try it before you buy it if you are unsure. ;)
Here's some information about the firewall gathered from Avast documentation:

Quote from: avast! 5 Reviewer's Guide 2010
The avast! Silent Firewall quietly controls inbound and outbound traffic to a user’s computer. Designed for autonomous operation, it automatically answers questions about location, applications and files with minimal, if any, user input. Decision autonomy of the Silent Firewall is based on three factors. First, the list of secure applications comes from on-going research and review by avast! of over 50 thousand popular applications. Second, avast! recognizes connection attempts by applications with digital signatures from renowned major vendors. Last but not least, the Firewall also shares information with other components in avast! such as the Behavior Shield which monitors the activities and behavior of applications trying to connect and the new PUP detection of key logger programs. Together, those three evaluations help the avast! Firewall decide whether to deny or allow inbound or outbound traffic with better precision than the ordinary computer user. The Firewall encourages easy user input. At the beginning, it will ask users to choose one of three standard profiles for inbound traffic. But, this decision can also be made automatically. Settings will be automatically remembered when returning to the selected network at a later time. Firewall settings can be easily adjusted and users can add favorite applications to their own white list. Applications can also be grouped into a logical context such as browser processes, chat programs, or executables for specific programs like Microsoft Office. The key visual component to the Silent Firewall is its Geo IP. This lets people map the geographic routes that data packets travel on their way from a point of origin to the user’s computer.

Do you have any specific questions?
