Who made that list ? Microsoft ? I don't think so...

Of course no one can check all those programs to see is it really true, but I found 10-15 programs from that list that runs on my computer without any single glitch, and I'm testing all possible situations. KB835935 SP2 build 2180 RTM installed.

Too much noise for nothing people... woudn't be better to start to believe that SP2 is really improvemement. Why everybody always just tries to find what's wrong and doesn't search for good things that change really brings us ? Nothing is perfect in the world... Linux ? Yeah, right... Mozilla as perfect browser ? Yeah, right... we are not perfect, we also can become ill sometimes...

Cheers !

So, I guess all those programers should change code of their programs (and that's most likely what is going to happen)... OS is primary thing. Can't run all those programs if you don't have a solid base, in this case - OS.  ;)

I agree, although it seems Microsoft might be busier than most, being as how there's a long list of their own programmes that have issues with their own update!

It's always like that... if you wanna live in stable house, you must have strong base (OS)... if something is wrong with base, it needs to be replaced or changed... can't replace the base if you still have walls (programs). So, walls needs to go down sometimes in order to make whole house better and stronger. It looks like we all are in process of building new, stronger house.

I agree entirely SZC, just a shame it takes so long to get a stable foundation.

I use Windows and Linux

Windows because I have to, because of some programmes I need to use.

Linux for it's continuing stabilty, if it's good enough for NASA, it's good enough for me.

I've never had any major problem with my Windows though... it's not just important how much you take care of your OS, it's very important how successful you are in compiling all those hardware components, are you aware of possible troubles by installing unsigned drivers, taking care of your registry, installing antivirus and firewall software, etc, etc. All those components have to be carefully chosen, otherwise it's normal that you are heading into problems... million different computer configurations in the world, it's really amazing how good everything actually works.

You are right in your last reply SZC, we all bear a responsibilty to use this technology correctly.

That's why I chose to use avast for my virus protection, and other programmes to check for trojans, and other programmes to check for ad/malware.

I do feel that Microsoft can never cover all of those no matter how hard they try and should make it clear that security should take a multi level approach.  This latest update, doesn't seem to offer a "one stop" solution despite the press from Microsoft.  It looks good in the press, but I think (personal opinion only) it only starts to help users secure their machines.

I digress, and run the risk of going off topic.

No, you can't go off-topic, even if you want that  ;D ... everything that we talk about in these forums is anything but off-topic. All those things are very important for understanding everything that is going on around us. You're right, in my opinion too, SP2 didn't bring us anything revolutionary (or evolutionary if you like)... it looks more like better patch than SP1 for people that just starts to use computers and don't know much about security or they know, but they don't wanna bother (which is very wrong)...

Anyway, I really don't have problems with SP2 since I installed it. Everything works just like Swiss clock... ;D and that's why I'm happy. We'll see what future brings us... I hope all the best, but I'm sure everything is going right way to better and brighter looking OS era... slow, but at least it's moving forward...

Cheers !
