One last comment,.....why is it an 'issue' to send a program to another location of choice?

I have done this most of my computing life and have yet to see anything negative from it.
Is Avast somehow particular about this?
If so I would imagine that a custom install option should be eliminated.

I do the same thing on my XP machine BTW.
Just something that popped into my head from an earlier response.

Anyway,.....I will get back here sometime tomorrow and tell you how it goes. ;)

Well, I have no clue what messed things up, but,.....the removal tool worked perfect on both versions.

Installed the new version again to C:\Avast5 regardless of what you guys said, and it worked fine this time! 8)

Thanks again for the link, and the advice.

Avast has never complained about being installed in anything other than the default location, there is nothing to stop you doing that (as you found). So whatever happened before was not by design.

However, what you will find is that with avast5 you will still have avast data in the C:\ProgramData\Alwil Software\Avast5\ folder in Vista.
