Error message about "oqideduvaka.dll"
« on: December 06, 2010, 06:55:53 PM »
Every time I log off or shut fown, then log back on, I get a pop-up ERROR MESSAGE on my monitor that says:
RUNDLL
Error loading C:\WINDOWS\oqideduvaka.dll
The specified module could not be found

I looked in the virus chest and this is listed as: oqideduvaka.dll
What is this and how do I get rid of the pop-up error message?
Thanks for any help!

Hey and Welcome!

Have you tried to restore it? I recommend you to download malwarebytes, update it and make full system scan.

Regards,

+1
You can get it here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Update it before running and post your log here.

What it is, is a registry entry remaining after a piece of malware has been moved to the chest. This registry entry is trying to load/run the file and it isn't there, that is why the error is displayed.

A google search for this dll file returns only one hit and that is for this topic, so that in its own tight is highly suspect. Also it isn't usual to find many dll files in the windows folder, I have 6 and a google search would find they are legit, I already know what most are.

This dll file name is randomly generated and that is why there is only one google hit.

So the error message on its own isn't a problem as avast has removed the file, but you can clean out the redundant registry entry, using MBAM or another registry cleaner, see CCleaner below.

CCleaner - Temp File Cleaner, etc.. This also has a Registry checker section, look for issues and should be looking for orphan registry entries, e.g. a registry entry entry with no associated file.

@eastwick66

Downloade program DDS http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr
Double-click Run DDS

Wait a bit, it will dispose two logs
Copy me log DDS.txt

If this file is IN THE AVAST CHEST, then how does it NOT exist? This has been happening for 3 months with this Windows error message.
I'm brain dead (stupid) about computer technical issues, and don't understand the solutions offered. If I download the CC Cleaner, then what do I do next, please? Run it, then what? Will it just find this "dll" thing? Should I DELETE it out of Avast virus chest?
Thanks for any help with step by step instructions!

It isn't in its original location and that is where the registry entry is looking for it, c:\windows.
