How can I disable programs from accessing the internet?

I'd like prohibit certain programs from getting internet access.

How can I go about doing this with Avast Free?

I would use a firewall to do this.  What is your firewall?

Well right now, Win 7 firewall lol

after reading the threads, I think I'm going to go with Online Armor Free Firewall.

I'm still considering Zone Alarm Free but hesitant because barely any of you recommend it.

Online armor is top choice, what programs do you want to block as alot of them you can stop from within the program itself.

Yep...problems.  If you are using Avast Free, I would recommend OA Premium, which offers HIPS and other features for greater protection to layer your security.  However Win7 FW is also very good.  This is a comparison chart of OA free and Premium: http://www.online-armor.com/.  Do not get OA++ because it has the AV in it.

What every FW you decide on, trial it first to see if you like it and if it plays well with your other software.

You can also get Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM) for layered protection to use with Avast Free for an on-demand scanner; download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button).

Great feedback fellahs. Thank you!

@craig: I have a few programs that I prefer not contacting back its headquarters to see if my serial is legit lol

@safesurf: I'll be installing mbam and online armor on top of avast free in hopes they're not a resource hog. I have heavy graphic programs running always so I hope I won't "feel" them running in the background.

Don't you just hate it when you find out you have been helping someone who uses cracked/pirated software?    >:(
