Avast and slow startup
« on: August 18, 2004, 02:05:29 PM »
Lately my computer has been really long to startup and I noticed that , right after windows opens, the avast icon in the system tray is showing that avast is not active, and the computer is not doing anything while other programs, like zone alarm, are supposed to start too. After a while, like a minute or two, avast starts working and then the other programs start too... and 2 or 3 seconds after, the computer is readdy for use.
I'm on XP home edition and running the latest version of the free Avast.
This problem is really bugging me so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

This is not caused by Avast. More likely by one of the other applications that are loading at boottime. Use msconfig to disable them one at a time. Disable one, reboot. Disable nr2, reboot, repeat this untill you have found the on causing this.

The computer could be stressed at boot time with many programs starting...
Specially antivirus + firewall used to slow the startup a bit.
2 or 3 seconds aren't too much  8)
