What is the status of the 5.1 beta ? stable enough to use for a home PC ?

Yes there may also be some differences in the Beta UI.

Depends on the system... Really, it is for advanced users as any other beta of a serious company :)

thanks for the info.  I consider myself advanced, but I'm not familiar enough
with 5.0 (I only installed it a few days ago) to tell if what I see in the beta
is unusual or not, for example, the problem I reported with the network shield
becoming "inactive"

For now, I've reverted to 5.0.

davexnet, the problem with Network Shield is not common, it's typical of a bug in the beta.
