Resolved:Backing Up a File
« on: December 15, 2010, 11:34:15 AM »
Hi.  Bought Avast Internet Security a couple of days ago and reading their e-mail this morning, come across :
An http key and the following info

> > Please note: We recommend making a backup of this file as the URL is valid
> for 7 days only.
>
> PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO OPEN THIS FILE BEFORE YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE PROGRAM

> ON YOUR COMPUTER!

I have deleted http and some of the numbers but have no idea of how to find a file let alone back one up . Can someone explain please and is there anything else I should be doing with this new program?>

First, edit your post and delete the key so no one else can use it before you can.

Thanks for that Safe Surf but to be honest I hadn't realised that I had to use the key.

Did you have a different product of Avast?

Edit: The server is having problems; had to make 2 posts.

Once you have purchased Avast Internet Security 5.0, you will receive an email with your license file attached to the email address specified during the purchase process.  You need to have Avast Internet Security 5.0 already installed on your machine to insert the license file into the program according these instructions:

http://support.avast.com/index.php?languageid=1&group=eng&_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=476

Here is the set up file for AIShttp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe

How to install AIS:

Found the e-mail saying that the licence file is attached, but cannot find the attachment.  E-mail states if you dont get attachment find it at the http address I posted in my earlier post. However there is no response ie the cursor does not change into a hand and remains as an arrow and the url (?) does not highlight. Will try again now.

Edit:  Found the attachment but when I went to run it, I am told that it already exists.

Got this far, but when i click on 'Insert Licence File' I'm taken to a window with pictures etc. So not sure a) how I get the file, and b) how I insert it.

It depends on where you saved the licence file from your email.

I choose to save it in Documents for future reference.

Looks like you are using Vista or Windows 7 Snipping tool.

Thanks for your reply. I really dont know where it was saved. It may have been a temporary folder.

Then use the windows search function, looking for the license/avastlic file.

I don't use Vista as per my signature.

I'll fire up the XP Pro system to see where I saved it there.

It sure would help if you updated your PROFILE as per my previous post Today at 08:52:22 AM and like DavidR' signature.
