Hi DavidR, hope I'm not being a pest, I used the Crucial Memory Advisor, and it worked perfect, I have the original paper work on my motherboard so it's a match, I'm looking at the 1.25GB I'm not looking for a Ferrari, will this help speed things up a bit so sites will load a little quicker, I also hope it comes with good directions and maybe a drawing, I know this site is for Avast, thanks

I don't know why you are looking at 1.25GB as that isn't a combination you can achieve on your motherboard.

RAM comes in 64/128/256/512MB and 1GB (or higher sticks in 1GB increments) Your old RAM is in effect redundant (64MB & 128MB) so unless you have more than two RAM slots (many have 4 but only 2 can be used), normally they are in two different colour groups and you can only use one colour group. So two 512MB sticks giving 1GB would be the most logical combination.

It will certainly help overall system performance, but directly load pages faster I don't know, indirectly I think your page loading problems relate to sites that are media intensive. e.g. those with lots of images and other elements making up the page, that will mean avast would be scanning those elements and up to a point they would be in the browser cache and possible loaded into memory. So indirectly it could help page loading.

DavidR Hmmm I was only going by what Crucial Memory Advisor recommended for my motherboard ( MSI k8ngm-v) glad I didn't order it, so I should order two of the 512mb sticks

It is just such an odd figure, I can't understand how they arrived at that. I would first do some searches for memory of that specification/type and compare prices there are other makers Kingston, Corsair, lots of different brands in this page, http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282867-12-stuck-choosing-brands-rams, but Kingston and Corsair are relatively good value for branded RAM (not generic, no name).

DavidR, I made a mistake viewing the Crucial Memory Advisor, it is 1 GB not 1.25 GB Crucial is part of Micron here in Boise Idaho about 15 miles from my home,I'm happy my tiny purchase will help support a local company their web site is fantastic and feel I can install myself.
I want to thank you personally and team Avast for your support, I arrived with Avast questions and you took the time to help with an unrelated memory issue,I will place my order on Monday and report back if you wish.
