Can license renewal policy be changed?
« on: December 16, 2010, 03:41:22 PM »
I would like to renew before the expiry of my current 12 month AIS license and have the additional 12/24/36 months added on to the period of the current license.
I have contacted sales and was told that this is not the way it works. The renewed period starts from the time of payment. This means that if I (or anyone else) considers value for money important, I'll most likely wait until the day after ('cause it's GMT+11 here) and hopefully then remember to renew.
Why does it need to be this clumsy?
Wouldn't it be better to encourage early renewal rather than allowing the possibility of forgetting to do so on the exact day?

Swarnava you obviously have no understanding of what Vladimyr is asking or better still suggesting so please stop these pointless post's that make no sense at all.
You would be well advised to learn the english language more competently before trying to offer help and advice as you are only confusing everybody.

@ Vladimyr,

I agree and understand with what you are saying, however this is how Avast has been doing their renewals.  It is good, however,  that you pointed this out for others to see and learn.

Hello,

This is a change coming that may somewhat do what you are asking. Avast 5 supports the use of an activation code, which generates your license file when entered into the program. It starts your license from the moment you enter the code, not from moment of purchase. This is intended mostly for retail use (example: a retail boxed product) however it may eventually be an option for other uses.

You can contact a reseller in your area to see if they offer this.

Slightly off-topic, since it relates to the free version ... I'd love to see a return to the renewal system prior to v. 5 where you could renew at any convenient time, not just in the final 30 days or whatever the current setup is.  Sure, you started a new 12 (14?) month period immediately, but with the free version, there was no concern with value-for-payment from not getting your registration extended.

Just got the following renewal reminder email so I'm resurrecting this thread.

"Dear avast! Customer,
your avast! Internet Security will expire soon. To stay protected against viruses and spyware, you must renew it.
RENEW NOW FOR BEST SAVINGS
To renew with a discount, click the link below. It will take only a couple minutes to complete:
https://dr-store.avast.com/esales........

If you need help, please contact us at sales@avast.com"

Now because my license is good for another 16 days, before I "contact us at sales@avast.com", does anybody here know if I still have to hold off renewing until the very last day to avoid losing those days, or has the policy changed so that the renewed license period will be added on to the end of the existing license period?

Vladimyr,
I just got the same email. I suspect like me you have been offered a 30% renewal discount.

If you uninstall AIS and install Avast Free you will immediately be offered a 50% discount to upgrade to AIS!

Loyalty bonus = -20%!

Mag,

That is strange indeed :-\

Btw with the right coupon code you can get a higher discount as well. For example the Wilders 55% discount is still valid :

Yes. In my post I erased most of the link but it was coded as you suggest. I was aware of the upgrade-from-Free 50% discount (and the Wilders 55% code mentioned by Red).
I somehow don't think "Loyalty bonus = -20%!" was the intention of whoever devises the various discounts. ;) It does makes sense to offer a big discount as an incentive for "Free" users to upgrade - and for those of us "in the know" to take advantage!

A reminder to me (below) - means another reminder to the illustrious and industrious avast! marketing team. ;)
This notification would be more helpful and not annoying :( if the renewed term was added to the existing license period. Any chance?

It appears Kaspersky's renewal policy is similar to avast's: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2375356,00.asp

the renewal should be added to the existing time you have on your current license otherwise there would be no point in renewing early.hope they change there renewal policy.
