You dont need to stop avast standard shield, if you want to do a driver defrag. avast driver should check if file is used with defrag software.

I used Rejzors Power Defrag program. I chose the setting to scan "disk". I left my Avast program turned on during that time. I did not time the defrag but it didn't seem like it took that much time. After the defrag everything on my pc appears normal.  :D

PerfectDisk is a very good defragging proggie.

Disable un-necessary services in NT based systems... They will increase your speed. :)

Blackviper has a extended list with services and tells what can be shutdown. He has also some other tweaks/tips.

PerfectDisk is a very good defragging proggie.

I've never found any other as good as PerfectDisk  8)
Boot-time defragmentation. Fully scheduling feature.

well PD is excelent but have 1 small missing feature: defrag of Dynamic Disk ...

in that case i suggest use O&O Defrag 6.5 ...

it's hard tell which of O&O Defrag 6.5, PefectDisk 6 and DiskKeeper (10 or what ever is latest :) is better ...

To throw my two cents worth in. I have defragged leaving things on and turning everything off. It goes faster on my system with everything turned off. I also delete all prefetch files, use Disc Cleanup, etc. to eliminate all files I can before performing a Defrag.

I use Rejzor's Power Defrag first, then I use the Windows Defrag. If I use each alone I end up with a few fragmented files scattered on the disc. When used together usually there are NO fragmented files and NO gaps on the disc. Try it. It makes for a very clean system.

I had MultiPass Defragmentation(TM) incorporated into my Power Defragmenter, but it was removed. Maybe i'll add it again with some improvements.
