XP Windows Update Failed. Error 0x65. Google Redirect

Hey hope everyone is having a great night!
I am having a problem with my fathers computer. He has been trying to install 5 specific updates using windows updates onto his computer all regarding to .net framework 2.0 3.0 and 3.5 (security updates)
Trying hard to solve this situation myself but no luck. Another forum suggested a possible tdss, so I ran tdsskiller and ran clean.
He's runnin windows XP SP3  (Service Pack 3 which was installed while these five failed.

Also how can I fix Google's redirect? Fixed it on mine but am unaware how I did that *sigh*

Apologies kinda rushed through my post..
I ran Avast and Malware bytes. Both ran clean.
Being that there was an obvious problem on the computer I went ahead and ran combofix here the log.

After combofix was finished and indeed found errors on his computer I noticed a big difference in speed however I still see alot of mutiple processes running.

To clear the redirects - I noticed a proxy server.

Go to Control Panel and select Internet Options
Select the Connections TAB
Select LAN settings button
Ensure there is no tick in the Proxy Server box
Select OK and restart Internet explorer


And for Firefox there are instructions on this page and you want the setting to be no proxy

If the redirects continue could you post an OTL log

Download OTL  to your Desktop

• Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
• Select All Users
  
• Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Reference the dotnet errors - you have two options:

Hard Uninstall all dotnet versions run the dotnet cleaning tool, reload all dotnet versions
Easy Hide the dotnet updates

After unticking the box indicated and a restart cured the redirect.

Do you think somethink malicous is stopping the updates regarding .net framework?
I remember that i installed them manually, is it possible these updates are not compaitable with the downloaded version of framework?

I checked add remove programs and I have the versions its trying to update.. Its 5 security updates for 2.0 3.0 and 3.5
I tried restarting and then trying to install. Shut down and let them install before the system turns off and went directly to the site and tried. I also checked update history and another forum said the error code should not be left alone as it could severely damage the system (The forum topic was describing the error 0x65 itself)
The last thing left to do is uninstall and reinstall framework.

The .net framework update in my own personal experience are without doubt the worst windows updates I have ever had to do. I had no end of failures, installing the update from windows update and off-line when I had downloaded the full update installation file. That was with earlier versions .net 2.x and I also had problems with .net 4.0.

I installed the full .net 3.5 and 3.5 SP1 (which also installs the 2.x versions of .net. I gave up on .net 4.0 (slow starts and shutdowns, etc.) and uninstalled it as I had no applications that required it.

So it may simply have been a hiccup in installing it.

Dotnet is notorious for this problem - if you do not need it then just hide the updates
