3 month license?
« on: December 27, 2010, 06:41:07 AM »
Hi,

We have several computers using avast in our household, currently using version 5.0.677.

Since they all are on the same license schedule, our licenses are set to expire at the end of the year (December 31, 2010). I have been re registering each machine, and went to complete the process on one machine. All the others I have re registered have given me a year license when I filled out the form (one year from the date of registration).

The machine in question shows that it was registered on 12/17/2010, and that the license expires 3/17/2011, just three months after the registration date. I did not register it, and other users of that computer do not recall doing so (but may have), so I am confused as to what may have happened.

Is there any three month registration that would make this happen? Everything else seems normal (updates to the vps file are still happening, did a full scan - all appears good, etc...) so I am confused about this - ad a little concerned that maybe this machine got some malware that put in false dates to hide something?

Also, note that since it shows it as registered until 3/17/2011, I cannot input a  registration key until it gets closer to then. Is there any way I can put a registration key in not to keep us all on the same schedule? It makes the maintenance much easier.

There are no 3 month licenses.  Is the date and time correct on that machine?  What product of Avast are you installing?

If you are concerned with malware and your Avast scans came out clean, you may want to try and MBAM scan as another opinion http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) - update prior to scanning.

If you still have concerns, please contact Avast Sales: http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles - use drop down menu for "Sales Inquiry."

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.  Thank you.

Have you checked that the system time / day / month / year is correct ?

Hi. Thanks for the replies.

The date / time was off by one month. When fixed, avast still shows as registered on December 17, 2010 and expiring March 17, 2011 - still just three months.

Could that be an effect of the date being one month off during registration?

And, since no one addressed my second question, is it safe to assume that there is not way to input a registration key until the expiration gets closer?

How would sales help? Is that an attempt to get me to switch from free to paid?

Support here used to support both free and Pro users, and the forum, judging by its title, is still intended for that.

Can anyone give an answer without directing me elsewhere?

Sorry, as you didn't tell us which version you use...
If you use the free version, I don't see any problems at all.
avast will tell you when to update your free license, don't worry. :)
