I've got Avast now what

I just bought 3 licenses of Avast Internet Security 5 to cover my 3 most used computers.  It is the first time I have paid for a security suite in a while.  I want to cover all my security bases.  Do I need a malware protection as well or does Avast cover all my security needs?

If not what other software should i consider?

AIS will pretty much cover all of your bases, but you should use have some other services as a backup.

http://www.opendns.com is nice to prevent accidental or bad pages from loading (on your entire network, if you set your router's DNS servers correctly).

http://www.malwarebytes.org for additional malware scans/repairs if something gets by AIS.

http://www.abelhadigital.com/hostsman is another way to prevent bad sites from loading.

Funny it gets so highly suggested on this site.  Without knowing much about this stuff it was the other one I was thinking about getting.  The one problem I am having is freeware vs paid.  They offer a little discount for multiple computers but you have to pay for each one for the paid version.

With Avast should I just rely on the freeware or is it worth paying for the paid version for my main computers?

Many people recommend the Pro Version for the excellent real time protection (and doesn't cause conflicts with Avast! at all) and I'm seriously thinking in get the Pro Version too.

May I suggest that you save your money and stick with the free version of MBAM. For the extra peace of mind that this program offers, simply run it once per week.

The Pro version of MBAM has a one time licence fee and is well worth the price for the additional Website Blocking that compliments avast! Web Shield.
It has saved me many times from sites that avast! did not know about.

It has Flash Scan on its updates that can occur several times per day and its Quick Scan can be sheduled to run once per day.

Waiting a week to run MBAM is way too slow as malware moves much too fast to depend on only one application to help prevent system infections! :'(

What Scythe944 suggested re hostsfile.
This will offer excellent protection from known malicious sites. Needs updating every week or so.

Use of a browser with scripting disabled (or at least set to prompt.) There is an add-on for Firefox called NoScript which is excellent; will prevent a drive-by download from commencing. The malicious file won't even recognize your computer is browsing it's host page.

You're going to suggest a beta version of a service that's almost unknown instead of an established reputable service
like http://www.opendns.com

I think avast should consider to release a DNS server for that also.
Would it be so difficult to offer this defense layer?
