[Resolved] Unisnstall 5.0.677 to Install 5.1?
« on: December 31, 2010, 03:52:58 AM »
Will I need to "uninstall" 5.0.677 before installing 5.1? Or, will 5.1 install over 5.0.677? I ask because I have a feeling others have the same question.

Hi.

While I believe it preferable to uninstall old versions of anything, with a well-designed upgrade/update of a well-designed product, manually uninstalling the old version should not be necessary - unless specifically required by the new version.

One advantage of not uninstalling first, can be the carrying over of all the custom settings, from the old to the new.

I just ran it over the existing build. No problems except that it wiped out my system restore points. Which was ok. I just created another one. Haven't gotten around to figgerin on why that happened but I will.

Is you're tray icom problem gone? Mine is.

Yes this was a question.
So first i try to update the existing installation. When everythink works fine... i have to do nothing ^^
When something isn´t working, i will do a reinstall of avast.

Does this mean uninstall then re-install?

Does this mean uninstall then re-install?

No, that means: Reinstall only, if needed.
Usually you don't need to do that...
