Does anyone have an idea as to when there will be a  new 5.1.864 build to alleviate these Dell/Vista WLAN and Solutions problems?

I'm just a user like you so I don't have the "inside track" on this. Some other threads indicate we might see a new build around the end of this week, but the real answer is that it will be released when Alwil feels like it is ready.

I think we just need to be patient now.

Release Date:2/1/2009
Version:   4.170.77.3 (Driver); 4.170.77.18 (Application), A22-1
Download Type:   Driver
File Format:   Hard Drive
File Size:   58 MB
http://bit.ly/h3u08p

The driver is almost two years old.

Have you used a program like DriverMax to see if there is a more current version of the driver?

Also, what Windows OS are you using?  I don't believe that you mentioned.

Also if you go here and look at the list of computers for the Broadcom Wireless 1395 driver the Dell Inspiron 1525 is not on the list

http://bit.ly/dEzDXb

Just asking :)

Who is this question directed to?

This driver is the latest that Dell offers for cards based on that particular Broadcom chip set, and there are many Dell models that use these cards. The fact that this driver doesn't appear in the list of drivers for the Inspiron 1525 simply means that Dell didn't bother to update the 1525 page on their website. And there is no way I'm going to trust sites or applications like DriverMax when it comes to hardware drivers. I'm going to get those from the vendor's website, no matter how "old" they are.

From reading some of your other posts you seem to think that every problem a user has with Avast is a driver issue, but that's absurd. With all due respect, Nesivos, this conversation is really a waste of time because this particular issue is not a driver problem. It has been traced to an issue with the new Behavior Shield and it is being worked on. Let's just wait for a new build and see what happens.

I am not so sure why you got so defensive over the driver issue.

I have two Dell computers on my network and had two Dells before these new ones.

I haven't used Dell to update my drivers for years.

DriverMax works great.

Also you didn't say which operating system you are using?

I will say that I used XP for years but it is now outdated, insecure and just creates too many problems to continue to use

Vista is a nothing more than Windows 7 Beta.

So using Vista is also problematic.

Also I don't recall, and I may have missed it, what Firewall are you using?

Good luck

Vista is almost 5 years old and I have never had problems like this with any other A/V or any drivers ,what do you mean problematic?

One other comment on this.

Just because a software problem goes away when you turn off a feature in a software product in this case the BS in Avast that does not mean that the problem is with the feature of the software that was turned off.

That software and that feature could be working correctly but the conflict with that feature is caused by a bug in the other software that is in conflict with the feature.

@Nesivos  Do you use comodo by any chance because you sure do sound like one of their fanboys always quick to put the problem on the user or a driver issue instead of the program its self as far as my drivers go and vista also i have never had a problem with either of them till this new version of avast so i am to believe the problem is avast not my system.

I'm not defensive. You'll just never convince me that changing my wireless card driver is going to make any difference.

DriverMax works great.

That's your choice. It doesn't have to be mine.

So upgrading to Windows 7 will fix my problem (assuming that changing my wireless card driver doesn't)? [a rhetorical question only -- no reply needed]

Good luck

Thanks, but I know what the solution to my problem is, and that is to wait for the next build.

Update:
I use a program called DriverMax and just checked on the latest driver for:
DellWireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card (made by Broadcom)
the latest signed release is version 5.100.249.2

That unfortunately wasn't what was on my system.
I allowed DriverMax to do the update, restarted the Behavioral Shield in avast!5.1,
rebooted the system and had no internet connection. :(

Before any says: "I told You So" ---   I now did a complete shutdown,
waited a few seconds, started the system up again and viola,
Behavioral Shield is working and, I'm on line:) :) :)

No other changes to my system were needed (or desired); the new Avast version fixed my problem, as I suspected it would.

It's still a good idea to upgrade your driver.  :)

Why aren't you still using DOS ???

Is this a serious question??? Do you really think an unnecessary driver update is the same as moving to a new operating system? If so, I'm beginning to understand why we aren't communicating -- we see the world in vastly different ways.

Here is a challenge for you: Do you know exactly what got "fixed" in the "updated" driver version you are referring to? In other words, do you really know why you updated? Well, I did a little homework and the 5.x versions of this driver just added support for countries that I don't live in. There is absolutely no reason why I need to install this driver when the one I have works fine (in the USA).

If you and others want to tweak your systems like this, that's entirely up to you. But I don't care for the "evangelists" continuing to try selling me something I don't want. Can we just let this thread die? I started the thread because I had a bug to report, and now that Alwil has fixed the bug I really don't have anything else to say on this topic.
