5.1.864 - behavior shield stopped but still active.
« on: January 01, 2011, 11:35:09 PM »
Hi all - upgraded from the stable 5.0 release to this new version.
Installed over the top, all OK.  I noticed that even though I had stopped this
shield, (it's status is STOPPED - "module not running"),
the "events analyzed" counter continues to increase.

Seems odd - should this be happening ?

The Behavior Shield is still a work in progress, thats too say it is essentially set up to 'collect information'(If you chose to be part of the Avast Community)on programs so Avast can develope better filtering and recognition. So if its analyzing I believe that is normal. :)

Thanks for the info.
At the moment I have the setting/community de-selected.
My plan was to disable the behavior shield since it is a "work in progress"
and leave Windows Defender real-time component active.

Would I suffer a performance hit if I enabled the behavior shield?
Or would it be a wash, seeing as it's scanning anyway ?

What info does the "community" collect? I would be willing to enable it if
the info is of some use to Avast.

BeS does not have a noticiable impact in the performance. It could be let on. It's on "passive" mode on version 5.1, collecting data to the next version 6 (2011 Q1).

The information helps the programmers to know about malware detection, heuristics, behavior shield detections, etc.
Non-personal and technical info is sent to avast technicals.
