Several problems with Avast IS 5.1.864 and Windows 7 64bit

Hi, I have the same OS and Avast version than this user and I'm experiencing something odd: at every boot, icons are being "rebuilt" (Programs menu, folder windows, they show blank for some seconds) and there's a crazy disk activity by Avast (checked in sys monitor) which lasts about 2 minutes. Also if I use the searchbox in Programs menu, I have to wait seconds for results to show up.
Needless to say, just some days ago the system was much snappier and I thought the latest Avast program update could be the reason.

I would suggest an uninstall and clean install.  Report back on how this works.  Yes, it does sound like the same problem.

I took the safe road and went back to 5.0.667. All seems back to normal (icons are ok, disk is quiet).

No I don't speak German, I was just using an automatic translation but I'll keep an eye on that thread, thank you!

OK...I was translating too.    Well, at least all is normal under the prior version.  The Avast Team has already been notified about this thread, so they are working to fix the problem.
