Illegal; operation

I have just installed avast 4 home into my p.c running windows98(se).The programme runs perfectly apart from the fact that when i close it down I recieve a message from windows which says'This programme has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown.Its no big deal since i want to close the programme anyway,but how do i stop this?

What's the exact error message? (there should be some numbers there)
Does it happen every time when you close it?

It only happens after i scan then close it.

After the scan is finished, or when you close the program during the scan?
Anyway, what is the exact error message?

When the scan is over.
The message is ASHSIMPL Caused an invalid page fault in module<unknown>at 0000:Iblof38d.
