[Resolved]virus definition version
« on: January 04, 2011, 06:39:54 AM »
I updated to 5.1.864 fine.

But the virus definition version is asking for an update, but it won't allow me to update.  Anyone having the same problem?

Okay all fixed. Windows add remove programs, Avast xxx, click the Change/Remove button, click the Change section from the new window and uncheck the Behaviour Shield entry, OK your way out and reboot.

Problem solved.

I doubt this was the resolution, but a happy coincidence yes, as the Behaviour Shield has nothing to do with updates and nor does it have any interaction with avast updates.

What might have pointed to the true cause would have been the full text of any error message relating to the failed update.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version. You may need to reboot after the repair.
