Maybe we should relax now i think avast! is working on this and the problems we have with our program.

It's no big deal to simple make a little change in your settings and post a link
to your avatar on one of the off site picture hosting sites.  :)

not sure the "onsite" avatars have anything to do with the forums recent slow downs... but if it's the case, just one word: lol :D

edit: anyway there's a new server and a forum upgrade coming up soon I heard, guess "onsite" avatars might be supported again ??? ;)

Its shouldnt be the onsite avatars that does this but the outsite because when u load a thread its has to find the location of where your avatar is and i think that what could cause the slowdown. ;)

That my 2 cents not sure if its true but well its has sense to me. ;D

I too rather doubt any slowdown has anything to do with avatars.

This problem for whatever reason is the use of https in the forum path to the avatar location, this results in a 404 error if you try to reach it independent of the forum page. When you use http the avatar can be displayed, so the question really is how come it uses https when http works (looks like a secure server or secure handling issue). I can't recall if the path to the avatars always had https or if they had http.

yep david, I forgot about that... the onsite avatars are on ssl... and there's been issues with that already in the past.

Yes there was an SSL issue before that I can remember, but I thought that was related to self-certification.

Perhaps they simply did some cleaning(getting rid of old files etc.) and optimizing on the forum.

Or maybe they moved the avatar directory as that apparently does wonders for forum loads... The forum has been quite fast for me today and i hope it stays that way.

yeah there's been a cert issue...all onsite avatars have disappeared once already...which may have been related to the cert issue :)...as again avatars here are ssl accessed... the issue got solved quickly at the time.
