cd problems

installed avast now my epson driver setup program will not work
uninstalled avast and all ok cd setup program working fine
xp service pack 2 installed
all blockers dechecked
still will not let me run setup programs any sugestions on this
one cd so far

I'm having the exact same problem with Office 97. It wil not install when I click on setup.exe. Nothing happens.

If I uninstall Avast I can then install Office 97.

Running XP Pro + SP2.

Avast scans exe files as part of the Standard Shield, and if such affects the Win32 executables as well.
If there is any file within the setup Avast feels fits a "virus" signature, it will not execute that file.

Try shutting down the On Access Protection for Standard Shield by right clicking the I ball in the tray, and shutting it down.

I had tried that but it makes no difference.  

I first noticed this on a fresh clean install of slipstreamed XP SP2.  I then installed Avast but could not then install Hyperion Via 4 in 1 drivers until I uninstalled Avast.  Stopping all Avast services doesnt make any difference

First thing i tried even closed down all services still running
when avast shut down any over ideas
