upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1 ?

I use avast free 5.0 currently.
CaN I upgrade via GUI? Or I have to deinstall 5.0 at first?
I know it is better do deinstall but I ask if it should work via GUI or not?

You should be able to update from the avastUI, Maintenance, Update, Update Program.

yes, I know I should be able, but I mean is it appropriate to upgrade from GUI 5.0 to 5.1?
Maybe there aare competely diferent moduls and kernels and so on ...and GUI upgrade is bad alternative in this case?
